Southampton
Founded in 2018, Southampton Village Ocean Rescue (SVOR) responds to open-water emergencies in and around the Village of Southampton — 24 hours a day, year-round, via 911.
SVOR is a volunteer emergency response organization dedicated to performing swift and effective rescues at unprotected beaches. Each month, members participate in intensive training sessions at various locations, coordinating with multiple emergency agencies — including the Southampton Village Police Department, Fire Department, Ambulance, Marine Patrol, and the U.S. Coast Guard — to ensure readiness for any water-related emergency. All SVOR rescuers are ocean lifeguard– and CPR-certified.
Recognizing that prevention is the key component to saving lives, SVOR places strong emphasis on water safety education. SVOR distributes educational materials about rip current awareness and maintains rip current warning signs at all Southampton Village ocean beach access points. The team launched the Still Water Lifeguard training program for individuals 15+, and an Ocean Lifeguard Training Program for individuals 16+, along with Junior Lifeguard and Cadet Programs for 8-15 year olds. SVOR also runs Adult Swim Clinics throughout the summer.
The team provides safety coverage at charitable open-water events and community functions throughout the area.
SVOR is a dedicated team of over seventy trained volunteers, united by a shared mission: to protect lives, promote safety, and prevent drownings in our community.
Unfortunately, there have been too many drownings in the past.
One drowning is one too many!
