SVOR MISSION

MISSION

The Southampton Village Ocean Rescue (SVOR) was founded in 2018. Our mission is to respond to emergencies in the ocean and bay, throughout the Village of Southampton, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Modeled after East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue, long-standing and proven to be effective; SVOR is purely a volunteer non-profit organization that was formed by necessity.

SVOR is dedicated to making expeditious and safe water rescues year-round at all unprotected beaches in Southampton Village. Each month SVOR trains in different locations coordinating with numerous emergency agencies, to be prepared for a multitude of aquatic emergencies. Our rescuers are ocean lifeguard and CPR certified. We are devoted to safeguarding swimmers in charitable open water events, triathlons as well as other water related functions in the Village of Southampton.

Our members promote water safety and education; thereby assisting Southampton Village in providing skills for youths that will prevent future drownings. SVOR plans to facilitate training and testing lifeguards in Southampton. Working with the Village elected officials, SVOR initiated the  Junior Lifeguard Training program, for ages of 11 to 14 in Southampton Village, with hopes of expanding to younger ages in the future. SVOR also hopes to conduct future pre-summer season classes to educate nannies in water safety. SVOR runs educational press releases on the dangers of rip currents, during Beach Safety Week;  and is responsible for the installation and maintenance of rip current signs at Southampton Village ocean beach access points.

SVOR Members are Committed to Saving Lives!
